Vice President Sara Duterte sparked controversy at a campaign rally on Friday when she made harsh remarks against Manila Rep. Joel Chua, even suggesting a violent action involving an apple.
Speaking at a rally for mayoral candidate Isko Moreno, Duterte endorsed Apple Nieto for the 3rd District of Manila, urging the crowd to vote for Moreno’s slate to prevent conflicts in the local government.
In her speech, Duterte, referencing the “Snow White” fairytale, called for Chua, a critic of hers and prosecutor in her impeachment trial, to be harmed with an apple.
She also criticized candidates from prominent political families, urging voters to consider the ability of candidates rather than their names or endorsements.
Duterte concluded by mocking the promise of P20 rice made during the 2022 presidential campaign, pointing out its delay and reemergence ahead of the upcoming elections.
