Vice President Sara Duterte’s defense team said it is ready to cross-examine National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag, who is set to testify on July 21 in the ongoing impeachment trial.
Defense spokesperson Michael Poa said the team is prepared to challenge Matibag’s credibility and testimony while also gearing up for proceedings on the alleged misuse of confidential funds.
The Senate has also approved subpoenas for two Land Bank officials and a House official as part of preparations for Article I of the impeachment case.
Matibag said he remains focused on his duties despite renewed scrutiny over the 2019 Southeast Asian Games spending and denied claims that he was intimidating senator-judges.
House prosecutors said the public can expect Matibag to present the findings of the NBI’s investigation into Duterte’s alleged threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and other officials.
