The Sandiganbayan flagged lawyer Iryl Boco for filing pleadings with erroneous citations that she admitted were crafted using artificial intelligence tools.
The court reminded Boco to fact-check AI-generated research and adhere to proper legal citation standards in future submissions, as required by the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA).
The errors involved non-existent or misquoted legal authorities in motions filed for former Technology Resource Center official Dennis Cunanan, who faces graft charges.
Boco apologized, admitting she carelessly signed the documents without a thorough review, though she said the motions were drafted by Cunanan’s former lawyer using AI for research.
The court accepted her apology but stressed that, as the signatory, the ultimate responsibility for the misquotations rested with her.
