Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Vice President Sara Duterte visited detained former congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr. at Camp Bagong Diwa in October, citing BJMP records.
Lawyers of Duterte’s former aide Ramil Madriaga, however, insisted that the Vice President visited the facility twice and spoke with Madriaga during an earlier visit.
Remulla maintained that Duterte spoke only with Teves during the Oct. 19 visit, while Madriaga’s lawyers urged authorities to review CCTV footage and interview former jail officials to clarify the matter.
Madriaga has claimed he served as Duterte’s bagman and alleged her 2022 campaign was funded by illegal drug dealers and offshore gaming operators.
Teves is currently detained as the prime suspect in the killing of former Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo and nine others in 2023.
