The traditional red carpets at the South and North Lobbies of the House of Representatives have been removed ahead of President Marcos Jr.’s 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA), House spokesperson Princess Abante confirmed.
Only the red carpets at the main entrance and rear entrance of the Session Hall will remain, with no staged ceremonies or photo setups allowed.
This change was requested by Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez to scale down red carpet activities in light of the recent massive flooding in the country.
The adjustments, outlined in a memorandum by House Secretary General Reginald Velasco, aim to show solidarity with disaster-hit areas and maintain the solemnity of the event.
Members are encouraged to wear formal but modest attire, such as Barong Tagalog and Filipiniana, while media interactions will be limited to brief doorstop interviews following security protocols.
