QC OPENS SECOND BASKETBALL COURT WITH FLOOD DETENTION BASIN

The Quezon City government inaugurated its second multi-purpose basketball court with a built-in stormwater detention basin as part of its flood mitigation program.

Led by Mayor Joy Belmonte, the facility in Barangay Tandang Sora can temporarily store up to 1,256 cubic meters of rainwater to help reduce flooding while also serving as a community sports venue.

It also features rainwater harvesting tanks that collect and reuse water for maintenance and irrigation.

The project forms part of the city’s science-based Drainage Master Plan aimed at improving flood resilience.

Quezon City is also building another detention basin along G. Araneta Avenue and continuing dredging and declogging operations to lessen flood risks.
