The Quezon City government has urged political candidates to avoid using plastic tarpaulins and other election paraphernalia as part of its ongoing environmental efforts.
Mayor Joy Belmonte reminded the public that under City Ordinance No. SP 2202, the use of plastic-made campaign materials is prohibited, citing the environmental harm they cause, such as clogging waterways and increasing flood risks.
She emphasized that political aspirants should consider the long-term impact of plastic pollution and explore more sustainable alternatives like PVC-based materials, which can be repurposed.
The city has already removed over 18,000 kilos of plastic campaign materials this year. Residents are encouraged to report any violations through the QC Helpline 122.
