PUMPING STATIONS FALTER AS FLOOD CONTROL ASSETS GO MISSING

Stolen cables, valves and manhole covers are disrupting flood control facilities in Metro Manila, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said.

The Sunog Apog Pumping Station in Tondo was rendered inoperative after high-voltage cables were stolen but resumed operations after replacement cables were installed.

Dizon also reported stolen check valves at the Tumana Pumping Station, which help prevent flooding from the Marikina River.

Missing manhole covers along Roxas Boulevard have also caused road accidents.

The Philippine Coast Guard has been deployed to vulnerable facilities, while authorities will pursue the perpetrators and inspect scrap yards.
