President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed his former press secretary, Cheloy Garafil, as the new chairman and head representative of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taiwan.
Garafil replaces Silvestre Bello III in this role, which involves managing relations between Filipinos and Taiwanese in areas such as investment, technology, and labor.
Newly-appointed Presidential Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez confirmed the appointment.
Before becoming press secretary, Garafil held various roles including officer-in-charge of the Office of the Press Secretary and leadership positions in the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the House of Representatives.
Garafil also has experience as a prosecutor and State Solicitor.
