The Philippine National Police (PNP) is urging schools, colleges, and universities to coordinate with local police before conducting field trips, training camps, and other major off-campus activities to strengthen student safety.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said advance coordination would help ensure proper security, emergency response, traffic management, and medical support.
The initiative will be discussed with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to enhance school safety.
The move follows recent tragedies involving students, including the fatal school shooting in Tacloban City and the drowning of Ateneo student-athletes.
Police units nationwide have also been instructed to strengthen coordination with schools and increase police visibility around educational institutions.
