PLDT Inc. is open to investing in the proposed AI hub in New Clark City, but is urging the government to establish a clear roadmap for the data center industry.
Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan said the project has strong potential but requires adequate infrastructure, skilled workers, and supportive policies to succeed.
He emphasized the need for a data sovereignty law that would require government and local companies to store data within the Philippines to help grow the industry.
Pangilinan added that other companies under his group, including Meralco and Maynilad Water Services, could also invest in supporting facilities once a clear plan is in place.
The AI hub, backed by Philippine and US initiatives, is expected to begin development next year and has already attracted interest from more than 20 American firms.
