The Philippines is planning to develop analog missions to prepare Filipinos for future human spaceflight opportunities.
Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) Director General Gay Jane Perez said the agency is using the experience of Filipino analog astronauts trained abroad to build similar missions in the country.
Eleven participants recently completed a 24-hour simulated lunar mission at Batangas State University under PhilSA’s Analog Habitat Waypoint (ANAHAW) program.
PhilSA plans to expand the program next year and conduct a two-week all-Filipino professional analog mission in 2027, potentially in Poland or the United States.
Perez said the missions form part of PhilSA’s three-year astronaut program, with an astronaut candidate and a high-impact space experiment potentially ready for launch by the end of 2029.
