The Philippines secured its return to Davis Cup Group III by defeating Kyrgyzstan 2-0 in their Asia-Oceania Group IV tie held in Kuala Lumpur.
Eric Olivarez Jr. won the first singles match 6-1, 6-3 against Kirill Kistanov, followed by AJ Lim’s 6-3, 6-3 victory over Ilgiz Kamchibekov.
With the overall win assured, both teams agreed to skip the doubles match.
This victory marked a strong comeback after the Philippines was previously relegated to the lowest Group V tier.
Unified Tennis Philippines chief Jean Henri Lhuillier praised the team’s hard work and resilience, highlighting their readiness to compete for a spot in Group II next.
