The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has established a new unit to combat cyber attacks and misinformation, aiming to strengthen the country’s cyber defense capabilities. The military’s Civil Relations Service and the newly organized AFP Cyber Security Group will focus on securing the people and the state in the cyber domain.
Colonel Francel Padilla, the new military spokesperson, emphasized the ongoing efforts to fortify defenses against cyber threats, as the AFP has been a frequent target of cyber attacks. Last year, several government agencies fell victim to cyber attacks, and hackers defaced state websites.
To further enhance cyber defense, the AFP is planning to recruit “cyber warriors” who will be part of the cyber security unit. The establishment of this unit reflects the AFP’s commitment to addressing the persistent cyber threats faced by the Philippines.
The move comes as the country recognizes the need to strengthen its cyber defense capabilities and protect against cyber attacks that can have significant implications for national security and stability.
