The Philippines joined 148 other countries on June 12 in supporting a UN General Assembly resolution demanding an immediate, unconditional, and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, as well as full humanitarian access and protection for civilians.
The vote followed the UN Security Council’s failure to pass a similar measure due to a U.S. veto, prompting criticism of the council’s inability to act.
The resolution, though non-binding, holds political weight and also calls for the release of hostages, Israeli troop withdrawal, and lifting of the Gaza blockade.
The Philippines’ vote aligns with its previous support for ceasefire efforts, including backing a phased peace plan and calling for an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.
Meanwhile, famine conditions in Gaza continue, with aid efforts hindered by violence and access restrictions.
