PCSO PLANS TO EXPAND LOTTO OUTLETS

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) is set to increase the number of lotto outlets across the country after the recent successful implementation of the state-of-the-art Philippine Lottery System (PLS).

According to Mel Robles, the PCSO general manager and vice chairman of the board, the upgraded technology of the PLS will facilitate the establishment of additional “traditional” lotto outlets. In a recent interview, Robles stated that the plan is to boost the income of existing outlets and encourage more applications for new outlets.

Currently, there are 4,600 lotto outlets nationwide, and the adoption of the PLS has resulted in increased sales for these traditional outlets due to more efficient systems.

The acceptance of applications for lotto outlets, which had been temporarily suspended during the PLS launch, resumed on October 2nd, as announced by the PCSO.

Robles reassured that the expansion of lotto outlets will not be hindered by the forthcoming rollout of the electronic lotto (e-lotto) system, scheduled for a one-year test run next month. In August, the PCSO signed a memorandum of agreement with Pacific Online Systems Corp. (POSC), a lotto technology systems provider, for the trial run of the e-lotto system. POSC is part of a joint venture that won the PCSO’s five-year contract bid in 2021, securing the implementation of the PLS for a winning bid of P5.8 billion.

The PCSO’s initiative to expand lotto outlets aims to enhance accessibility and convenience for lottery players across the country, while also maximizing revenue generation for charitable causes supported by the organization.
