Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson revealed that some contractors are being offered accreditations by the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) for a starting fee of P2 million.
The PCAB, under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), allegedly facilitates these offers by handling requirements like bank certificates for a price.
Lacson disclosed during the Senate’s discussion on corruption in flood control projects, which Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III also criticized for being monopolized by a few contractors.
Sotto cited multiple companies with different names but linked ownership, including blacklisted firms, that still bag multi-billion peso projects.
Both senators plan to raise these issues in the next Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing to push for accountability.
