Magnolia’s Calvin Abueva has been fined P100,000 for a mocking gesture towards San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent during Game 2 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
The PBA released a statement stating that Abueva violated a league rule that prohibits offending the dignity of a person on account of physical disability.
Abueva was seen mocking Gallent’s impaired vision as he passed by the San Miguel bench.
In addition to this incident, Abueva was involved in a spat with the wife of San Miguel player Mo Tautuaa. However, the matter has been resolved after Abueva apologized to both Tautuaa and his wife.
Abueva avoided suspension. However, his actions cast a shadow over the Magnolia Hotshots’ already challenging position in the best-of-seven finals against San Miguel Beermen, currently down 0-2.
