The United States donated P1.9 million ($34,500) worth of equipment to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to enhance its vessel maintenance and repair capabilities, the US Embassy in Manila announced.
The equipment, including a backup power supply, was handed over by the US Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) to the PCG Fleet during a ceremony on August 18.
The donation will support the PCG Fleet’s Maintenance and Repair Group Workshop in Sangley Point, Cavite, which aims to improve maintenance for small boats and patrol vessels.
The workshop, inaugurated in May 2024, is a joint effort funded by the US Department of Defense and INL in partnership with the US Coast Guard.
The INL also pledged continued support through future equipment donations, training programs, and logistics planning to further strengthen the PCG’s maritime security efforts.
