Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said a plunder case against Sen. Loren Legarda and her son, Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste, will be filed before the Sandiganbayan soon after undergoing preliminary investigation.
Investigators accused the two of allegedly conspiring to obtain exclusive government rights over the country’s solar energy resources through legislative and regulatory actions, resulting in around ₱10.4 billion in unpaid government obligations.
Remulla rejected claims that the complaint was politically motivated, citing potential conflict-of-interest issues and saying the evidence would be presented in court.
Legarda’s camp said it had already submitted a counter-affidavit in response to the complaint.
Both Legarda and Leviste are currently abroad, with the senator on medical leave since Aug. 3 and Leviste’s two-month travel authority having expired on Sept. 24.
