The Office of the Ombudsman said it has no record of the counter-affidavit that Senator Robin Padilla claimed to have submitted in connection with the obstruction of justice complaint filed against him.
The complaint alleges that Padilla helped Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa evade authorities after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest order related to the crimes against humanity case against former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said Padilla presented what he described as the original counter-affidavit during Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial, but the document does not appear in the agency’s records.
Clavano added that the deadline for filing a counter-affidavit has already expired and that, as of now, only Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s submission is reflected in the Ombudsman’s system.
The Ombudsman said it will rely on its official records in determining the status of Padilla’s filing.
