Filipina chess prodigy Kassie Nuñez took the solo lead in the girls’ Under-8 standard division at the 23rd ASEAN Age-Group Chess Championships in Penang, Malaysia.
Representing Bicol, Nuñez remained unbeaten with a perfect four points after defeating Vietnam’s Nguyen Minh Anh.
In the premier girls’ U16/18/20 combined division, Mhage Sebastian tied for second place with three others, trailing just half a point behind Woman FIDE Master Tran Le Vy.
In the premier U18/20 open section, Mark Jay Bacojo lost his solo lead after a defeat to Indonesian Fabian Gen Mariano, who took the top spot.
