President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced that the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) and 12 stations of the MRT-7 will begin operations in 2027 as part of the administration’s efforts to modernize the country’s public transportation system.
The 147-kilometer NSCR will connect Clark, Pampanga and Calamba, Laguna, serving up to 800,000 passengers daily while significantly reducing travel time.
Marcos said the MRT-7, initially operating from North Avenue to Sacred Heart in Quezon City, will eventually extend to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan and benefit nearly one million commuters each day.
He also cited progress in other transport projects, including the operational first phase of the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit and the planned launch of the Ilocos Norte BRT next year.
The President said the government remains committed to expanding railways, busways, airports, seaports, and transport hubs to provide Filipinos with faster and more efficient public transportation.
