PRESIDENT CALLS FOR UNITED ACTION TO PROTECT FILIPINO LEARNERS

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. called for stronger protection of learners and a united effort from government, families, schools, churches, and communities following the Tacloban school shooting that claimed the lives of three students.

During his State of the Nation Address, he honored the victims’ bravery and urged society to shield children from harmful influences such as fake news, online violence, pornography, and toxic social media content.

Marcos said the Department of Education, local government units, and the Philippine National Police will strengthen school security and improve systems for addressing bullying and emergencies.

He also announced the deployment of the first 10,000 school counselor associates to provide mental health and counseling services in public schools.

The President added that the expanded school-based feeding program will continue, benefiting more than 4.5 million learners nationwide.
