Senator Erwin Tulfo said on Sunday, May 10, that any attempt to stage a “Senate coup” to block the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte would be counterproductive and easily seen by the public.
In an interview on Radio DZBB, he questioned how such a move could be justified, stressing that it would only raise more questions rather than resolve concerns about the impeachment process.
Tulfo added that proceeding with the impeachment trial is the better course of action, saying the accused should be given a “day in court” to explain her side.
He also cited surveys suggesting that the public wants the trial to push through and be concluded to ensure accountability and clarity.
Meanwhile, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian emphasized that the Senate has a constitutional duty to proceed with the trial and said Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III remains in a stable leadership position despite reported coup talks.
