The Department of Education (DepEd) has replaced Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) with a new age-appropriate Reproductive Health Education (RHE) policy for students aged 10 to 19, starting in Grade 5.
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara announced the change following President Marcos’ directive to prioritize learner welfare, emphasizing culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate instruction.
The new policy, guided by the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Law, aims to provide scientifically accurate lessons on health, relationships, and gender sensitivity through trained educators.
Teachers will receive ongoing training, and parents will be engaged through consultations and information campaigns to support the program.
DepEd said the shift reflects a balanced approach that combines scientific knowledge with Filipino cultural values and adolescent well-being.
