National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag vowed to uphold transparency, accountability, and institutional integrity in his first public remarks after taking his oath of office.
Matibag, who previously served under former presidents Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Rodrigo Duterte, said ongoing investigations will continue while existing systems are strengthened to bring the bureau closer to the public.
Addressing flood control complaints, he stressed that the NBI’s role is strictly investigative, with prosecution decisions resting with the Office of the Ombudsman.
He also assured the public that cases linked to his former political affiliations would be handled with the same rigor and impartiality, emphasizing transparency to avoid any perception of bias.
Matibag described his appointment as a return to public service, underscoring the NBI’s focus on building solid, evidence-based cases while supporting accountability efforts.
