The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) has partnered with the local government of Sogod, Southern Leyte, to build a new regional fish port aimed at boosting the local fishing industry and commerce.
The fish port will serve as a vital hub for the fishing community and provide a marketplace for the public to buy various goods, especially food items.
While project details like cost and timeline are still being finalized, the development supports the local government’s goal of enhancing fishing livelihoods.
Sogod’s location along the rich fishing grounds of Sogod Bay and the Bohol Sea makes it ideal for accommodating fishing vessels.
PFDA manages nine regional ports and 138 municipal fish ports nationwide, which handled over 119,000 metric tons of fish in the first quarter of 2025.
