Tim Cone has been officially appointed as the head coach for Gilas Pilipinas by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
The announcement marks a new era for the Philippine basketball program, with Cone’s leadership set to be tested starting next month.
Cone has selected a 12-man pool for the upcoming Asia Cup Qualifiers, including PBA standouts like Scottie Thompson, Chris Newsome, and June Mar Fajardo, as well as overseas-based players like Dwight Ramos and Kai Sotto.
Justin Brownlee remains the primary choice for naturalized player pending FIBA’s decision on his Asian Games doping case.
Richard del Rosario will serve as team manager, with other coaching staff yet to be named.
Gilas Pilipinas faces upcoming challenges including the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in July and the second window of the Asia Cup qualifiers in late November.
