The Philippine National Police confirmed that dismissed police officer Rodulfo Gracioso Jr. had been detailed as a security officer or staff member of former House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco.
Gracioso has alleged that he delivered suitcases containing cash to Vice President Sara Duterte and members of her family on Velasco’s instructions, claims that the concerned parties have denied and described as fabricated or baseless.
The National Bureau of Investigation is evaluating Gracioso’s sworn statements, photographs and videos, and said the evidence must undergo authentication and verification before his allegations can be established as true.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said authorities will verify Gracioso’s claims through investigative procedures, while the Department of Justice may assess his eligibility for the Witness Protection Program depending on the findings.
The PNP also confirmed that Gracioso was dismissed from the police service this month following previous administrative and criminal proceedings, while the NBI is expected to invite the personalities named in his affidavit for their responses.
