LeBron James officially joined the Philadelphia 76ers for his record 24th NBA season, saying he is happy to play alongside close friend Tyrese Maxey and the team’s other new stars.
James said he did not move to Philadelphia to lose, as the Sixers aim to end a championship drought dating back to 1983.
The 41-year-old signed an $8-million, two-year contract with Philadelphia after averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game with the Los Angeles Lakers last season.
James brings extensive experience to the Sixers, including four NBA championships, four MVP awards, four NBA Finals MVP honors and 22 All-Star selections.
While he declined to set a timetable for retirement, James said his focus is on helping his new teammates through his experience and pursuing a championship with Philadelphia.
