National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago described the spread of fake news as a “pandemic” and emphasized that curbing it is a non-partisan issue.
He revealed that the NBI is now targeting administration supporters who are disseminating disinformation against political opponents, with plans to file cases against vloggers spreading fake news about Senator Bato dela Rosa.
Santiago noted that the NBI has already sued at least 10 individuals for spreading fake news.
He also mentioned that charges would be filed against those attacking Duterte Diehard Supporters (DDS) and their loyalists, though he did not specify the exact charges.
The NBI chief believes that some vloggers may be funded to spread disinformation, pointing out the negative impact of fake news on society.
