The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said 100 local and international companies have expressed interest in investing in the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) under a planned privatization.
DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the public-private partnership aims to bring in experienced railway operators to improve train services and modernize the system.
The government will retain control over train fares, while the private operator will be evaluated based on reliability, punctuality, cleanliness, and maintenance.
The P103.6-billion MRT-3 project is expected to open for bidding this year to support fleet replacement and system upgrades.
The DOTr aims to select the concessionaire by the second quarter of 2027.
