MORE THAN 57,000 INFORMAL SETTLER FAMILIES WERE RELOCATED FROM MANILA BAY

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported that 57,134 informal settler families have been relocated from high-risk areas in the Manila Bay Watershed to government housing as part of the Manila Bay Clean-up, Rehabilitation, and Preservation Program.

This figure represents only 23.93 percent of the 238,747 families targeted for relocation.

The DILG did not specify the exact locations of the families’ origins or their new homes.

Currently, 61 local government units have completed socialized housing projects, 52 are still under construction, and 90 are in the proposal phase.

The department urged LGUs to speed up resettlement efforts and ensure they are sustainable and centered on the needs of the affected communities.
