The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has collected nearly 1.8 tons of recyclables from five barangays in Metro Manila through its “Recyclables Mo, Palit Grocery Ko” program.
Barangay Sucat in Muntinlupa recorded the highest collection with over 1,159 kilograms of materials.
The initiative allows residents to exchange recyclables like plastics and metals for groceries such as rice and canned goods, with points awarded based on the weight of the items turned in.
The program aims to promote community involvement in waste reduction and help mitigate flooding risks in Metro Manila.
MMDA plans to expand the program to more barangays to encourage wider participation in proper waste management.
