MMDA DEPLOYS MOBILE PUMPS, BARRIERS TO FLOOD-PRONE NLEX

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has deployed mobile pumps and L-shaped barriers to help ease flooding along the North Luzon Expressway in San Simon, Pampanga.

The measures, which began on Aug. 31, aim to address traffic congestion caused by flooded and impassable sections of the expressway.

MMDA said its mobile pumping trucks can remove up to one cubic meter of water per second, while barriers and sandbags were placed in critical areas to contain floodwaters.

NLEX Corp. clarified that the sandbags and plastic barriers were standby materials being used for ongoing flood mitigation works and were not swept away by floodwaters.

Meanwhile, Bulacan officials identified blocked waterways, silted rivers, damaged culverts, and other drainage issues as factors contributing to flooding in several areas and ordered further assessments.
