Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) is planning to allocate P26–30 billion in capital expenditures next year to strengthen its distribution networks and upgrade customer facilities.
The budget will fund new substations, replacement of aging infrastructure, and trials of underground cabling systems, targeting 1,500 circuit kilometers over the next five years in key commercial and heritage areas.
Meralco also earmarked around P8 billion for its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) program, which enables near real-time communication between operations and customer devices.
The AMI rollout, in partnership with US firm Itron Inc., will initially cover 73,000 endpoints across Metro Manila, with plans for gradual expansion.
Serving over eight million customers, the company aims to enhance network resiliency, reduce outages, and improve energy management for consumers.
