Meralco announced a significant increase in electricity rates for July, with charges rising by P2.1496 per kilowatt-hour, bringing the new rate to P11.6012 per kWh from June’s P9.4516 per kWh.
This adjustment, attributed to higher generation costs, translates to an approximate increase of P430 in monthly bills for households consuming 200 kWh.
The spike in generation charges this month follows a previous reduction in June, as per an Energy Regulatory Commission order aimed at spreading out the impact of high costs.
Meralco emphasized adjustments in billing dates to accommodate customers amidst these rate changes, serving over 7.8 million customers across its franchise area.
