MEAT IMPORTS EXPERIENCE 10% SURGE IN FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR
The Philippines imported 647.74 million kilograms of meat in the first half of the year, a 9.64 percent increase from the same period in 2023, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Pork made up nearly half of the total imports at 316.99 million kg, up by 10.7 percent from the previous year.
Chicken imports increased by 4.12 percent to 221.59 million kg, while beef imports surged by 29.29 percent to 84.9 million kilograms.
In contrast, imports of buffalo, lamb, and duck meat declined significantly.
Brazil was the largest supplier, contributing 34.5 percent of the total meat imports, followed by the United States and Spain.
