Senator Mark Villar is advocating for the establishment of Muslim prayer rooms in all public offices and establishments through Senate Bill No. 2288.
The bill mandates the designation of at least one separate prayer room in government buildings for Muslims to perform their five daily prayers in a clean, quiet space.
Villar, the bill’s principal author, has presented it before the Committee on Cultural Communities and Muslim Affairs.
He emphasized that the bill aims to address the lack of proper spaces for Muslims to practice their faith, highlighting the need for religious inclusivity in a predominantly Catholic country.
Villar also believes the initiative will help boost tourism by providing Muslim-friendly facilities for both locals and visitors.
