President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has dismissed Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco following the escape of former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo in July.
Justice Secretary Jose Crispin Remulla confirmed recommending Tansingco’s removal due to dissatisfaction with his handling of immigration issues, including the issuance of visas to fake corporations.
Despite the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission finding no evidence of collusion between immigration personnel and Guo, Remulla criticized the BI’s performance.
He expressed doubts about Guo’s claim of leaving the country by boat, suspecting the use of private or chartered flights.
The Palace has not yet announced Tansingco’s replacement as BI chief.
