Manila Mayor Isko Moreno announced the suspension of classes at all levels and work in city government offices on January 9 to allow devotees to join the annual Black Nazarene Traslacion procession.
Moreno signed Executive Orders No. 1, 2, and 3, which also prohibit liquor within 500 meters of the procession route and ban the sale of firecrackers from January 8 to 9.
The move aims to ensure safety and facilitate the smooth participation of millions of devotees in the historic religious event.
The Black Nazarene feast has long drawn massive crowds, making crowd management and public safety a priority for the city.
Officials stressed that the measures are part of broader efforts to protect participants and maintain order during the celebration.
