Vice President Sara Duterte said her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, advised her to return to Davao and leave national politics to her brother, Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte.
Sara said she is not inclined to follow the advice and will remain in Davao only as needed because of her duties as Vice President.
She also said she and Baste have not discussed the possibility of him running for president in 2028.
Sara had announced her intention to seek the presidency in 2028, but a conviction in her ongoing impeachment trial would bar her from holding public office.
Baste recently appeared as a witness in his sister’s impeachment trial, where he was questioned about Davao City government contracts involving a company linked to Sara.
