President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered government agencies to lower construction costs for classrooms, hospitals, farm-to-market roads, and other infrastructure projects to curb corruption.
The directive expands a previous order for the Department of Public Works and Highways to cut project costs by 50%.
Marcos emphasized that savings should be redirected to programs that support families, livelihoods, and community development.
The move comes amid allegations of overpricing and kickbacks in infrastructure projects, including flood control schemes.
Several high-ranking officials, including lawmakers and government undersecretaries, have already been implicated in what has been described as the largest corruption scandal of the decade.
