Lawmakers have urged critics of the government’s social welfare programs to reconsider their opposition, citing recent surveys showing widespread public support for these initiatives.
According to results from the Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia, 80 to 90 percent of Filipinos believe the programs are beneficial.
Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr. emphasized that no other government program has garnered such strong public approval in recent years.
Deputy Speaker David Suarez and Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe also welcomed the survey findings, highlighting that these programs are funded by taxpayers and are aimed at helping the poor.
The SWS survey found that 90 percent of respondents supported the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and 88 percent endorsed the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
