A House lawmaker warned that accusations against former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque could hurt his asylum bid in the Netherlands.
Roque had suggested that claims made by vlogger Pebbles Cunanan, alleging he spread a deepfake video of President Marcos Jr., could strengthen his case for political persecution.
However, Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong of Lanao del Sur argued that the allegations, particularly Roque’s supposed involvement in attempts to destabilize the Philippine government, could negatively impact his asylum application.
Cunanan’s affidavit claims Roque boasted about his ability to overthrow the government during a private dinner in Hong Kong.
Adiong emphasized that Roque had already been given due process by attending hearings related to his alleged involvement in financial and offshore gaming scandals, despite later refusing to comply with subpoenas for documents.
