Brian Yamsuan has filed a bill seeking to increase benefits for barangay tanods, calling them “unsung first responders” in maintaining community peace and order.
The proposed measure aims to improve their welfare by granting higher bonuses, insurance coverage, and priority in livelihood and development programs.
It also provides free legal assistance for tanods facing charges related to their duties.
Yamsuan said current laws give them minimal support despite the risks they face daily as force multipliers of the Philippine National Police.
The bill also seeks to strengthen job security by limiting their removal to valid grounds decided by the barangay council.
