Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson has resigned as chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, which is investigating alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
In his resignation letter to Senate President Vicente Sotto III, Lacson said his chairmanship depended on the confidence of his colleagues, some of whom accused him of selectively targeting senators while sparing House members.
He dismissed these claims as false, insisting his actions were free from political motives and that he has no plans for future political pursuits after his term ends in 2031.
Senator Erwin Tulfo, the panel’s vice chairman, said he respects Lacson’s decision, noting that other agencies like the DOJ and the Independent Commission for Infrastructure are already conducting similar probes.
Tulfo added that the Senate should focus on crafting preventive laws instead of duplicating ongoing investigations.
