Philadelphia 76ers guard Kelly Oubre Jr. sustained a broken rib when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in Philadelphia’s Center City on Saturday night. Authorities reported that the 27-year-old Oubre was taken to a hospital in stable condition and was released a few hours later.
The team swiftly ruled Oubre out for a home game against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night, stating that he would be re-evaluated in approximately one week. Sixers head coach Nick Nurse provided an update, stating that Oubre is back home and resting comfortably after the traumatic incident.
While the injury is not deemed season-ending, Oubre will return to the team’s practice facility as an observer on Tuesday before undergoing further examination to determine the timeline for his eventual return.
The incident occurred when Oubre was walking near his home around 7:20 p.m. on Saturday. A vehicle traveling at a high speed attempted to turn onto the same street, striking Oubre in the upper chest area with its driver-side mirror.
The silver-colored car then fled the scene. Ongoing investigations are being conducted by the authorities.
