President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos received major imperial honors during a state call with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on May 27.
Marcos was conferred Japan’s Grand Cordon of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum, while the First Lady received the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Precious Crown.
In return, the Philippine government awarded Emperor Naruhito the Order of Lakandula with the rank of Supremo, and Empress Masako the Order of Gabriela Silang.
The ceremony followed full state protocols, including national anthems, military honors, and an inspection of the Guard of Honor.
The visit is part of Marcos’ four-day official trip to Japan aimed at strengthening cooperation on defense, trade, investment, and regional security.
